Peeks speaks: the Operator Alert! feature certainly adds value to our subscriber services, especially for crane operators.
We'll be using it to call your attention to areas of possible problems, out of the ordinary things to look for or check, such as oversights and in general things you may not have thought could cause a problem or crane related accident.
Helpful Hint: When the Operator Alert! is of interest to you, feel free to make print-outs for distribution. You may want to attach a copy to your crane inspection report too.

Fire knocks out crane at state docks
“A fire Wednesday put a crane at the Alabama State Docks out of commission for at least a week, a Docks spokeswoman said.
No one was injured in the fire, which occurred around 2:45 p.m.
Mobile Fire-Rescue Department firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, said Judith Adams.
The crane is located at the Mobile River and Three Mile Creek, on the north end of the Docks near downtown, and is used to load and unload ships. It was unloading coal when the fire broke out, Adams said.
Other cranes will be used while the burned one is repaired, so work will not be interrupted, she said.
Adams said the fire was in an electrical box that determines how much weight the crane can lift.” Back to top |
